A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of speaking at Verge. The night was amazing, the topic I spoke on was Self Esteem. I just wanted to go back and visit a thought that I was talking about that night -
We don't see the same version of us that God sees, which has a huge impact on our self esteem.
A lot of the time we see ourselves as a picture someone else is painting/has painted. What are friends, family, enemies, and loved ones say about us determine what we see.
We look to other people's approval in order to build up our self esteem.
We try and find our happiness in what others say.
Why?
Why do we look to broken and imperfect people for approval and love when we can look towards a perfect God for a love that never fails?
There may be temporary happiness in things and people other than God... But it won't last. God's love is the only fully satisfying, all encompassing love that we can experience.
God is love. (Read 1st John 4:8)
His love never fails. ( Read Psalm 136)I think it is important to constantly be checking ourselves to see where our true happiness is found. The things of this world will fade, good and bad. This is why Christ should be the ultimate source of our happiness.
With that all being said...
How does this never-failing-loving God see us?
I love what Paul writes in Ephesians 2:10.
He says that "we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus."
Wow, God's masterpiece. The creator of everything. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, galaxies beyond imagination, and He sees us as His masterpiece when we are created anew in Christ.
That is beautiful, poetic, and uplifting. Those are words to live by. Words to dream by.
