Being poor and needing less

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,  for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

(Matthew 5:3 NLT)

I think the key word in this verse is realize. Once we realize how much we need God, we get God's blessings.

The message translation says,"You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule."

I love that last part. "With less of you". We need to realize how much we need God. When we realize this it's clear that we need less of us. 

To get more of God, we need to lose more of us. 

There is a constant battle going on inside of us between wanting things our way vs God's way. Of course we think our way is the best way, but that is just because we don't give God the chance to do things His way.

I want the God who knows everything, who is the creator, who is love to lead me down the path he wants for me.

Paul is constantly talking about dying to our flesh daily.

We need to die to self, so we can live for Christ.
