When you tell someone you would die for them, it usually meens you care tremendously for that person... So I have some questions for you, and me....
Who would you die for? Someone you love? Someone who treats you better than anyone else? Someone who is always there for you? A best friend? Spouse? Sibling? Parent?
What about the one who hates you?.... Your enemy? Or just someone who is hurtful, full of pride, or selfish?
Would you die for this person?
Or what about the rapist, murderer, theif?....
Would you die for them?
I would have to say no, we probably wouldn't. In fact Paul says in Romans we wouldn't. It is hard to imagine dying for someone who has this kind of evil in them. But what about the evil in us? We all have problems and are messed up people... But Jesus died for us anyway. He died for the friend, spouse, sibling, and parent. He died for the rapist, murderer, and thief. He died for you. He died for me.
The greatest act of love, giving your life for someone. Even though they won't love you back...
It humbles me, and makes me thankful to God even more because of His act of love.
Just some morning thoughts...
Romans 5:7-8
7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)
