If you have been around church at all in your life you have probably heard the term "worship" used frequently.
Maybe this word works up some mixed emotions.
Maybe you have been hurt by the church so when you hear the word worship, you shut out anything else that could accompany it.
We all have our own images, emotions, and examples that come to mind when we hear this word.
In most churches it is used to describe the time before the pastor preaches, when a few songs are sung.
The music plays, depending on what kind of church you go to, it's hymns, or maybe some electric guitar and drums, slow rock, alternative, etc.
It doesn't really matter the style, everyone has different tastes.
My point is, in the church, many of us have categorized worship as only music... But this is just a small part.
Worship is so much more than the music.
So much more than the song or instrument.
By limiting worship to just these things we are putting God in a box. A box ruled by our religious minds. Telling us that worship is just in the music.
It's so much more than that.
It's so much bigger than that.
Worship is happening all the time.
We are worshipers.
We were created to worship.
Whether we know it or not, we are always worshiping something.
Money? Time? Technology? Relationships? Work? Church? A pastor? A religion? God?
We can even worship worship. By that I mean within Christian music (more specifically "worship music") we can get to where we worship the music, or artist of the music, over Who the music is too.
What we put our hearts into is what we are worshiping.
What is your heart in?
What do you spend most of your time doing?
Who do you do what you do for? Yourself? Someone else? Something else? A higher being?
In John 4:23 it says to worship God in spirit and in truth.
Worship him from your true self. Not being fake. But being true to him, worshiping from your inner being.
If you are a Christ follower (someone trying to live like Jesus) then this should be a verse you want to live by.
Worship God in everything we do.
Worship God by admiring his creation.
Stare at it in wonder and amazement.
That the creator took the time to make something so beautiful. And yet knows each hair on your head.
Worship God by reading his word.
Meditating on it.
Seeing what he is speaking to you through it.
Worship God by listening.
By being quiet.
Stop talking and just listen.
Worship God by working.
By giving 100% all the time.
Don't be lazy but give it your all.
Worship God by giving.
By helping the least of these.
Breaking your heart over the things that break the heart of God.
Worship God by loving.
Love those who love you, love those who don't.
Faith, hope, and love; the greatest is love.
